Teaching & Outreach

Linguists teach about how language works. In the same way that biologist teach about life, linguists teach about language.

The WVDP is especially interested in teaching about language variation. Most people believe that language variation (and even language change) are bad in some way, but language variation is an important quality of language.

A key step to learning about language variation is the separation of social stigma from linguistic evaluation. Several of the links on this portion of the site contain exercises that illustrate why social judgement and linguistic patterns are separate.
